About Us

Pieter, Kobus & Calan

Koen and Buys African Safaris is the result of a shared passion for the African bush and ethical hunting, founded by professional hunters Kobus Koen and Pieter Buys.

Kobus has more than 15 years’ experience as a professional hunter and has guided numerous hunters in pursuit of dangerous and plains game with great success. Kobus has spent the majority of his time guiding in the Lowveld of South Africa and is also a representative for the Association of Private Nature Reserves (APNR). Whether it’s Cape buffalo, African elephant or warthog, our clients can be assured that Kobus has vast experience in hunting all of these species and he will use his knowledge to ensure our clients’ safety and hunting success.

Pieter has been around many sides of the campfire in the safari and game industry in Southern Africa. As a young man he qualified as a field guide and game farm manager in the Limpopo province of South Africa. But he soon realised that the profession of professional hunter suited him better. Pieter hunted as a professional for more than a decade, when he decided to step away from the profession. But being a hunter in nature he started hunting as a client and spend the next 15 years hunting all over Southern Africa looking for all the different species that are available to hunt.

It was one such a hunt in the APNR where Pieter and Kobus met and hunted together in 2024.
From this chance meeting they found that they shared common beliefs and work ethic in many things surrounding the safari industry and that working together would be mutually beneficial for them.

Not long after that Koen and Buys African Safaris was registered and a new chapter in both their lives begun.
Koen and Buys African Safaris (KBAS) now has access to more than 27’000 ha (66700 acres) of hunting concessions with abundant game, in the Limpopo province of South Africa. This doesn’t even include the access we have to some concessions that form part of the APNR next to the Kruger National Park. All our concessions offer luxury accommodation with fantastic atmosphere, so our guests can relax after their adventures.

So whether you are looking for plains or dangerous game hunting in Limpopo, we’ve got you covered.

Koen and Buys African Safaris also conducts hunts in Kwa-Zulu Natal for certain mountain and plains dwelling species on free range and high fenced concessions. These hunts will take you off the beaten path and show you some of the most picturesque places in South Africa. The sometimes longer shots in this terrain is often a long distance marksman’s dream hunt.

In total, we at Koen and Buys African Safaris can offer more than 50 different species over 3 different biospheres for our clients to hunt.

Not a hunter? No problem. We offer various adventures to keep everyone entertained, from bird watching, helicopter and hot-air balloon rides, to exploring the Kruger National Park and all the beautiful sights and sounds of the Limpopo province. Each trip with KBAS will be catered to your liking and needs and we promise to give you the experience of a lifetime.
